What’s your story?

Six years ago this blog started as a simple little platform called Young and Not So Reckless. I wanted a space where I could share my health and wellness journey as a college student recovering from a really toxic relationship with food and exercise. I learned fast that working out and eating well is about so much more than the way you look–it’s about the way you feel.

Back then, I didn’t really feel like there was a lot of information on social media and online platforms about the mental work that needs to happen when you want to lose weight or live a healthier lifestyle. I was sick of seeing “bikini body ready” workout plans that pressured girls to get down a super low body fat percentage to be considered healthy or fit. I am a firm believer that healthy looks different on everyone, which is why you need to find a healthy regimen that works for you.

I wanted to give readers the tools they need to develop a healthy lifestyle that helps them to achieve their best body and mind, while also sharing what has worked and not worked for myself. After spending years doing Crossfit, intense bootcamps, and strength & conditioning style workouts, my body felt broken and inflamed. I didn’t like the way my body looked or felt. I was also really tired of walking into a gym and feeling like I had to burn a lot of fat and work to get rid of my ‘love handles’ or curves to feel like I accomplished something.

I wanted a workout that would compliment my curves, embrace whatever shape I felt the healthiest, and genuinely just make me feel good! For these reasons, I completely changed gears and began incorporating more low impact movement.

I fell in love with the changes I began to see in my body + mind and got my mat pilates certification from AFPA. I then developed my own method called Mils Method, which encompasses various formats made up of Joseph Pilates’ original standing series and mat work, sculpt, and high intensity cardio intervals. You can read more about Mils Method here.

I hope that the posts here encourage and give you the tools to live a life that makes you feel like the best version of yourself–whether that’s by trying a new healthy recipe or purchasing a salt rock lamp for your bathroom. It’s the little things!
